Our Story
Before the sun was up, our grandmother was already at the fire — coaxing a gulai to life with turmeric, lemongrass and candlenut, the coconut milk pressed by hand that very morning. By the time the kampung stirred, the whole lane smelled of her cooking.
The aunties pounded sambal in the stone lesung until the chillies turned to silk; an uncle turned fish over the coals; the children stole the crisp edges of ayam goreng berempah before it ever reached the plate. Nothing was rushed — rendang darkened for hours, daging salai carried the scent of the smokehouse, and the rice steamed sweet beneath a banana leaf.
And no one ever arrived to an empty table. Before the food came the sireh — the betel leaf, offered from the brass tepak: the old Malay way of saying, without a single word, you are family now.
Bagai sireh pulang ke gagang — like the betel leaf returning to its stem. The quiet joy of finding your way home to a table that was always waiting.
We built Sireh to set that table again, here in Cyberjaya — the same slow gulai and hand-pounded sambal, the dishes of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Pahang, cooked the way our elders cooked them: generously, and to be shared. Hidang untuk dikongsi.
So pull up a chair, and let the dishes arrive together. Selamat datang — you have come home.
